Since oils do not hydrate the skin the same way water-binding ingredients like glycerin or hyaluronic acid do, they work best by sealing in hydration rather than replacing a moisturizer.

Apricot kernel oil

Lightweight emollient; helps soften dry, rough skin. It is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, especially oleic acid, and contains phenols/tocopherols, which support a conditioning, antioxidant-style role in skincare.

Camellia oil

Silky, cushiony oil that helps reduce dryness and support barrier comfort. Camellia oleifera oil is rich in fatty acids such as oleic, palmitic, stearic, linoleic, and linolenic acids; animal research suggests fatty acids in camellia oil may help reduce water loss and improve hydration in compromised skin, though this is not the same as proven human facial-serum efficacy.

Meadowfoam oil

Excellent for improving the feel and stability of the formula. Meadowfoam oil is unusually oxidation-resistant; USDA ARS reports it has high oxidative stability, partly related to its unusual fatty-acid structure. This can help the serum resist rancidity and feel smooth rather than greasy.

Argan oil

Good for moisture retention and elasticity support. A clinical study in postmenopausal women evaluated topical and dietary argan oil for hydration/barrier measures, and argan oil is rich in linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid relevant to skin barrier function.

Rosehip seed oil

Marula oil
